Volunteer Program Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become a Louisiana SPCA volunteer?

The first step in becoming a Louisiana SPCA volunteer is to register for one of our virtual volunteer orientations. After attending orientation, you will have the opportunity to register for additional training based on the volunteer opportunities you are interested in. There is $40 fee for orientation which covers the cost of your volunteer supplies (leash, apron, t-shirt, name tag, safety whistle and training).

Is it possible for me to volunteer with the Louisiana SPCA without attending the Volunteer Orientation?

All volunteers are required to attend online orientation. Orientation and training will not only provide an understanding of our mission as well as a description of the numerous volunteer positions available, but it will also provide invaluable and necessary information on animal communication & behavior, animal handling methods and shelter protocols.

What sort of volunteer opportunities does the Louisiana SPCA offer?

There is always something to do at the Louisiana SPCA! These opportunists will be shared with you in-depth during orientation but a few of our volunteer favorites include adoption assistants, photographers, greeters, event help and more.

Please be aware that our volunteer opportunities during COVID-19 are limited.

In Louisiana, our pets are a part of our culture as much as anything else. And for more than 130 years, the Louisiana SPCA has been an advocate for all our furry friends across the state. Follow our Lead and show the characters of Louisiana you care by supporting the Louisiana SPCA.

The Louisiana SPCA helped more than 3,000 animals find their forever home in 2020.
