Every Gift Creates a Second Chance

A Legacy of Caring for People & Pets

At the Louisiana SPCA, a second chance can take many forms and can look different for every animal.

Sometimes it means lifesaving medical care for an animal in crisis. Sometimes it means helping a lost pet find their way home. It can mean providing food or affordable veterinary care so a family can stay together, responding when an animal is in danger, or giving an animal the time and support they need to heal and begin again.

Behind every one of those moments are people who choose to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

When Randy Needed Help

When a concerned community member found Randy unresponsive, they knew something was wrong and contacted the Louisiana SPCA’s Humane Law & Rescue team. Our officers responded and brought him into our care, where our medical team discovered that Randy was suffering from an acute kidney injury and needed immediate treatment.

At first, no one knew exactly what would happen next. Then came the signs of hope. Randy opened his eyes, slowly became more alert slowly perking up, and responded when our team called his name.

With timely intervention, veterinary care and the dedication of the people working to help him, Randy stabilized. And when he was healthy enough, he was able to go home.

Randy’s story is one powerful example of what a second chance can mean, but his is far from the only story of hope our team gets to witness every day.

Impact Happens Every Day

Across our community, Louisiana SPCA teams work every day to help animals and the people who love them.

Through the first half of 2026:

• 7,971 Community Clinic appointments helping pets in need receive affordable veterinary care.

• 968 families received pet food assistance, helping beloved pets remain in their homes.

• 843 Humane Law & Rescue responses protecting the community’s most vulnerable and furriest residents.

• 1,278 community outreach connections helping people access essential resources for their pets before challenges became crises.

• 259 families participated in training sessions, strengthening relationships between people and their pets.

• 271 families reunited with their lost pets, restoring the bonds that make a house feel like home.

Each number represents something personal: a dog getting the medical care they need, a family not having to choose between buying groceries and feeding their pet, an animal in danger having someone respond, a lost pet finding their way home, or a family facing a difficult moment getting the support they need to stay together.

What Your Gift Makes Possible

This work depends on veterinary care, food, supplies, trained staff, safe spaces, transportation, and countless other resources, and donor support helps ensure they are available when an animal or family needs them most.

That is what makes every gift MEANINGFUL!

You are not simply supporting a shelter. You are helping sustain a network of services that reaches far beyond our doors and into neighborhoods throughout our community.

You are helping create the next recovery, the next reunion, the next family that gets to stay together, and the next second chance.

Rescue Runs On You

Helping animals often begins with helping the people who love them. That’s why our work reaches beyond shelter walls to support pets and families throughout our community. Sometimes that person makes a phone call, fosters an animal, volunteers their time, shares a story, or makes their first gift.

However it begins, compassion can change what happens next. Your support can make the next second chance possible. Give today and help an animal or family take the next step toward a better tomorrow.

Through the stories, programs, and people behind our mission, we hope you’ll discover what it truly means for the Louisiana SPCA to be More Than a Shelter.
