Leo says, hello! Leo is an energetic Labrador retriever with a beautiful black coat and soulful brown eyes. At 64 pounds and just over a year old, he's basically still a big puppy. He's a bit of a fixer-upper pupper who would benefit from additional training, but after enough exercise he becomes totally sweet and cuddly. He is also quite handsome, and gets tons of compliments around town. Trying to get in shape for the summer? Leo makes a great jogging buddy! You'll definitely feel safe with with this fluffy, protective giant running with you.

Leo loves to play fetch, tug-of-war, and follow you around admiringly. Being part lab, he also likes the water; he got to go on a canoeing trip with his short-term foster family once and had so much fun splashing around. Leo is still learning how to play and show affection more gently (i.e. not licking faces or mouthing like a puppy), but he already knows some basic commands like "sit", "paw", and "lay down". With some treat encouragement, he's quick to pick up others. He is also already housebroken. Leo's rambunctiousness should naturally tone down with age, and if anyone is willing to give him a chance and work with him, he has great potential to be the best dog ever.

Leo has waited at the shelter a very long time now, but he is still holding onto the hope that he'll find his forever home. This would ideally be an active household without small children, at least until he learns not to jump up on them when he's too excited. If you're interested in meeting and potentially adopting this big baby, please reach out to foster@laspca.org and we'll get you set up to meet him. He can't wait to meet you!
