20 YEARS STRONGER
20 YEARS STRONGER
As we mark the 20 years of resilience since Hurricane Katrina, we not only honor the strength that carried us through the storm, but pledge to embrace our future together with hope and determination.
Watch Stronger Together: Remembering Katrina to join past and current members of the Louisiana SPCA as we reflect on where we were during those trying times, where we are as an organization today, and where we stive to be in the coming years.
We’ve come a long way, but there’s still so much more to do. As the oldest and most comprehensive animal shelter in the Gulf South, the Louisiana SPCA is committed to protecting animals, responding in times of crisis, and preparing the next generation of animal welfare leaders.
To do this, we need your help. Every dollar you donate provides food, shelter, and lifesaving medical care to animals in need. And right now, thanks to a generous match from the ASPCA, every donation you give will be doubled until October 31, 2025. That means your generosity goes twice as far.
We learned some hard truths from Hurricane Katrina: always be prepared, never expect people to leave their pets behind, and know that no rescue can succeed without support.
When the crisis hit, our team didn’t hesitate—but we couldn’t do it alone. The call for help was answered by partners and volunteers from across the country, proving that even in the hardest moments, extraordinary things happen when we stand together.
Our work is never done. Each year, the Louisiana SPCA cares for more than 74,000 animals and touches the lives of over 25,000 humans. That means nearly 10,000 spay and neuter surgeries, more than a million pounds of pet food shared with our community, and thousands of animals finding their second chance at happiness.
Now we’re looking ahead. From updating the shelter you helped us rebuild after Katrina, to expanding our community clinic, to strengthening our capacity for disaster response, we’re committed to building a future where every animal has the chance to thrive. Together, we can make it happen.
Keeping companion animals healthy and happy for 100 years!
