Meet Face!

When Face arrived at the Louisiana SPCA, the 9-year-old senior dog wasn’t quite ready to show us who he really was.

In his kennel, Face would sometimes display behaviors that made finding the right path forward more challenging. But difficult behavior didn’t mean Face was a difficult dog—and our team wasn’t ready to give up on him.

Instead, we gave Face time, patience, and opportunities to decompress outside of the shelter environment that caused him stress. With continued attention and support, we began to see him make progress. Away from the kennel, Face accepted treats, sought out affection, and happily gave hugs and kisses. During one outing, he even encountered two dogs through a nearby gate and remained calm, sniffing around without barking or whining.

Each positive interaction helped us better understand Face and gave him the opportunity to build confidence and show what he was capable of.
His journey wasn’t about changing who he was. It was about helping him feel safe enough for his true personality to come through.

And eventually, that patience paid off.

Face found a home of his own, proving why some animals simply need more time, support, and someone willing to keep believing in them. At the Louisiana SPCA, that’s a chance we believe every animal deserves.
